Micro- and Nanosensors for Environmental Monitoring for Smart Cities

Abstract: In collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), several micro- and nanosensors for environmental monitoring have been researched and developed in the Micromachines (MEMS) Centre at the Nanayang Technological University and CENSAM/SMART in Singapore. Results of bio-inspired underwater flow sensor, shark-inspired chemical sensor, airflow sensors, graphene gas sensor and light field imaging spectrometer (LFIS) for atmospheric pollution monitoring by satellite will be reported.
Biography: Dr. Jianmin Miao has been engaged in academic research and industrialization of MEMS sensors in countries such as Germany, Singapore and China for many years. He founded the MEMS Center with wafer fabrication facilities at the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and served as the founding director. Dr. Miao Jianmin has collaborated with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States for 11 years. He was a visiting professor at MIT and a distinguished visiting professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. During his academic career, he has trained more than 50 doctoral and postdoctoral researchers, published more than 500 papers and books in international journals and conferences, and holds more than 200 patents. Dr. Miao has served as an editorial board member of many top international journals such as the Journal of MEMS and as chairman and committee member of several international conferences.
Dr. Miao Jianmin currently is fully involved in MEMS commercialization and founded several MEMS sensor and chip companies in China and other countries, and benchmarked their products against global industry leaders in MEMS sensors. The company's philosophy is to independently develop MEMS chip technology and break through the bottleneck of high-end sensor chips. A number of high-end MEMS sensor products of the companies founded by him have been successfully developed, manufactured and finally shipped to the high-end clients. The company founded by him has also received sizeable investments from first-class strategic funds and well-known chip investment institutions.
